editor's corner: the village Featured

deneen jaco

We've all heard the phrase, "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child!" Who is the village? The village is me, the village is you, each of us as integral pieces that make up the whole, regardless, of race, personal accomplishments or socio-economic status.

GOD, family and community must be the priorities of every village citizen, and in that exact order. Without God as the foundation, both family and community are compromised and we are now witnessing the devastating effects of the loss of those priorities.

I remember a time, growing up, when the village took a vested interest in its members. The neighbors looked out for one another, and children respected (minded) their elders. Now our children are the casualties of war within the schools, within some homes and in many communities.

Here's One to Grow On:

Children are the future, and should be our most valuable investments. We (the village) set the example today for what they will model their lives after tomorrow.

Just what will they reflect?

  • Group Economics: Should Organizations and Churches Lead by Example?

pexels photo 133699This week, I will begin this post with a true story.

In my community, there were two-black owned and operated florists who have gone out of business, who were forced to close their doors. Both of whom I know personally and patronized, and received exceptional service. How can it be that they were not able to sustain? That’s the question I pondered then and even now.

We can borrow a lot from times not so far in the distant past to help us overcome what is before us. Times are not what they used to be and there is no use shutting our minds to the fact that times-a-changing.

  • The Practice of Group Economics

pexels photo 331990What is Group Economics? Group Economics defined, is creating and exchanging resources (e.g., currency, talents, gifts, skills, goods and services) that a group deems valuable amongst another.
